Why are babies born with allergies?
Newborn babies have smooth, delicate skin, the envy of everyone. However, some babies develop red, swollen, and intensely itchy skin after three months, with "allergies" gradually emerging, leaving parents puzzled: "We don't have any skin problems, why is our baby born with allergies?"
Two in ten infants and toddlers in Hong Kong suffer from allergies
In fact, allergy is a common pediatric skin problem. Approximately 10-20% of infants and toddlers in Hong Kong are troubled by allergy; that is, 1-2 out of every 10 infants and toddlers suffer from varying degrees of allergy symptoms. Infants and toddlers with allergy often experience redness on the scalp, around the mouth, and cheeks. The affected areas gradually become red, swollen, and intensely itchy. Scratching often worsens the condition, causing bleeding and further injury. Although allergy is not contagious, severe cases can involve oozing and bleeding in the affected skin areas, which can affect mood and daily life.
85% of Patients Develop Symptoms Before Age 5
Although allergic skin conditions can affect all age groups, 85% of patients develop symptoms before the age of 5. While symptoms often improve by school age, some patients experience symptoms into adulthood.
Parental Heredity is a Significant Factor in Allergic Skin Conditions
Allergic skin conditions can be caused by a combination of internal and external factors. Heredity is a crucial factor. Studies indicate that if both parents have allergic skin conditions, 50% of their children will also have the condition. If only one parent has the condition, 38% of their children will have it.
The main gene associated with allergic skin conditions is filaggrin (FLG). Medical research has found that up to 50% of people with moderate to severe allergic skin conditions have filaggrin gene mutations. Filaggrin plays a vital role in forming the skin barrier and combating the onset of allergic skin conditions—not only resisting the entry of allergens and irritants but also possessing the ability to repair itself after damage.
Mutations in filaggrin weaken the skin barrier, damaging the epidermal structure and causing moisture loss, leading to dry skin and even peeling. This increases the permeability of allergens, allowing them to easily penetrate deeper into the skin and trigger an overreaction of the immune system, resulting in damp-heat allergies. Regulating the immune system helps strengthen the skin barrier, blocking the invasion of allergens and irritants, thus combating damp-heat allergies.
If parents themselves have a predisposition to allergies, or have issues such as nasal allergies, respiratory allergies, skin allergies, or food allergies, these allergy genes may increase the risk of their children inheriting this predisposition. Studies show that if both parents have a related medical history, the risk of their children inheriting a predisposition to allergies is 50-80% higher, making them a high-risk group for damp-heat allergies. While we cannot change our genes, regulating the immune system helps strengthen the skin barrier, blocking the invasion of allergens and irritants, thus combating damp-heat allergies.
G-NiiB Immune Kids SIM03
It is a unique microbiome formula that can be used as a dietary supplement. This formula uses big data to select ideal naturally occurring live bacteria, with patented microencapsulated technology from Italy to enhance live bacteria survival and is clinically shown to be effective and safe in local children with sensitive skin. This formula is scientifically formulated with exclusive patent licensing and clinically studied by The Faculty of Medicine of a Renowned University in Hong Kong.
Studies have shown that the formula not only significantly reduced the infected area and intensity by 38.9%, but also reduced the sensitivity index from moderate to mild in 100% of children with moderate eczema sensitivity, and improved from severe to moderate in 50% of children with severe eczema sensitivity. The data confirms that the treatment effect increases over time, with the moderately sensitive skin group achieving comprehensive improvement and half of the severely sensitive skin group experiencing effective relief.
